The project was initiated because the existing accounting system, Coda, had reached its limits, putting business continuity, compliance, and scalability at risk. There was a need for a future-proof financial foundation.

Bol had already made the strategic decision to adopt SAP. Scheer Nederland was selected due to its expertise in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and its experience in configuring standard processes within this environment.

The collaboration was based on shared responsibility: Bol and Scheer jointly made process decisions, set up the configuration, and performed the validation, with an emphasis on knowledge retention so that the organization could continue to develop independently within the standard framework of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition after going live.

The challenge

The sheer volume of existing processes made it challenging to analyze, interpret, and document data flows.
Since nearly all systems feed financial data into the accounting department, the impact on the organization was significant.
Bol’s security organization imposes strict requirements on integrations, authentication, and data traffic, which further increased the project’s complexity.
Bol had no prior experience with using the integration platform in combination with the Public Edition of SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

The solution

Bol opted to overhaul its finance operations using SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition. The implementation focused on a standardized financial core, including general ledger structures, reporting models, asset accounting, payment processing, and financial reporting.
The implementation was carried out with a clear focus on standardization and best practices.
The bol recipe book for processing financial transactions in a consistent manner forms the basis for integrations, management, and future expansions.
Scheer IDS played a leading role in this process with its shoulder-to-shoulder approach to define the correct configurations, test scenarios, and change management program.
